Without dark there is no light. That’s the duality of the universe we live in. In this regard, sometimes bad things need to happen to awaken a person into a more positive way of living. Former Treaty of Paris front man (2005-2010) and singer/songwriter Michael Chorvat’s story is no different. After the sudden passing of his mother a few years ago, he started searching for meaning in his existence. The age old questions of, “why am I here?” and “what’s my purpose in life?” consumed him and so his spiritual journey began. The songs on Michael Chorvat’s first solo album, titled "The Light", tell the story of his spiritual awakening and are intended to inspire others to take their own inner journey. The album is meant to serve as positive affirmations to awaken the listener to the universe within. So much so that you could call the album a self-help book in musical form. In addition to songwriting, Michael practices Reiki, a healing technique based on the principle of channeling energy into a person by means of touch Reiki helps activate natural healing in the body and put the body’s chakras, or energy centers of spiritual power, in balance. Similarly, each song on "The Light" represents a chakra of the body and takes the listener from the crown chakra down to the root chakra. The album is balancing, energizing, heartwarming and even thought provoking at times. It's music for the soul. “Instead of using my music to feed my ego, I want to use my music to feed the world.” - Michael Chorvat, singer/songwriter The concept of duality also teaches one must give to receive. Michael wasn’t satisfied with the thought of releasing music the traditional way and for personal gain. Instead he wanted to put some positivity into the world and use his music to help others less fortunate. That’s why he's donating 50% of the profits from the sales of his album "The Light" to a charity called Action Against Hunger, a top-rated global humanitarian organization committed to ending world hunger. Michael has already raised over $4,000 for the charity from an Indiegogo campaign he ran in 2014 (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/i-want-to-use-my-music-to-feed-the-world). Even though the campaign is over, he continues to donate 50% of the proceeds annually. Other projects Michael Chorvat is currently involved with include Ryan Powers and The Secret Weapons, Daniel Wade and Our Name Is Jonas, Chicago's only Weezer tribute band.
