Born in Southern California, Marina Sakimoto spent her formative years continuously creating, from leading her first rock band as a high school junior in 2009 to taking up photography.
Marina lived in New Zealand from 2014 to end of 2015 where she started her music project Shunkan. In just under two years, she was selected for a $10,000 NZ On Air artist grant, landed the cover of NZ Musician Magazine, and attracted the attention of international press such as The Guardian, Spin, BrooklynVegan, Noisey, BBC6, and many more alike. Her most recent album Cumberland Falls was selected for NPR's Staff Picks of 2019.
Marina graduated in 2019 from Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Hollywood with an A.S. in Music Business. She was awarded with the Outstanding Student Award in her program and was placed on the Dean's List.
Marina can create in a multitude of genres and energies. She has a deep love and appreciation for a wide variety of musicians/bands, including David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, and The Cure.
