Joanna Marie is a singer/songwriter based in DeKalb, Joanna has performed shows at venues throughout the country including the Hancock Summer Music Series, 12th & Porter, Hard Rock Café-Chicago and Indianapolis, Elbo Room, and Alive Festival. She traveled over 3,000 miles playing shows in ten states as part of the 2012 Extreme Tour. Throughout the Summer of 2013, Joanna conducted her Resist the Fear-Pursue the Dream Tour, her first solo tour, at venues throughout the Midwest. The solo project allowed her to experiment with different stage orientations (solo, trio, full band) and develop new songs in a setting that is different than with her full band. Joanna was recently featured as part of the prestigious Get Off the Couch and Best of BB&B songwriters’ showcases in 2014 and the Women of Substance Artist Showcase in 2015. Her music has been placed in an indie film, in a fashion video blog, and as the underscore for a promo for a social service agency. Joanna’s song “Sorry” was voted #1 for the Women of Substance Radio Top 20 Indie Songs for 2015. Like many songwriters, Joanna’s songs come straight from the heart. “One of the things I like about making music is being able to express my feelings and emotions that I am processing in my life and putting it to music. It’s really freeing for my soul and allows people to connect with those emotions and hopefully help them through similar experiences.” Audiences relate to Joanna’s great music, her outstanding voice, and her contagious smile. The fact that she truly cares about her music and how it affects the people she shares it with comes across whether Joanna is doing session work, playing a festival, or singing in a bar. “I am always amazed that, as an artist, how much my music can influence people’s lives and the responsibility I have as an artist to live my life with honesty.” Joanna takes this responsibility seriously. Whether as the front person for her band, or with her solo project, Joanna will continue to share herself through her music performing shows at festivals, coffee houses, colleges, and music venues everywhere.
