Born and raised in Chicago proper, Kate has been writing music since her childhood. Her first best friend was a primary-colored Sony tape deck, into which she would spend hours singing a medley of Broadway musicals and her own melodies, donned in whatever she found in the costume trunk that day. Her adult life seems to be an extension of this behavior. Formerly of Chicago's emo/power-pop Walrus and the folk/country The Bright Young Things, Kate met her main squeeze Evan Weiss at a show at Ronny's dive bar and venue in Logan Square in 2010. Shortly after, she began contributing occasional vocals and keyboards to Into it. Over It. songs. Presently, Kate is the singer and keyboardist of the indie-emo effort Kittyhawk. Their self-titled EP was released in 2012 on Storm Chasers Records in vinyl form, and on tape from Skeletal Lightning. Since then, they have released a splits with Ohio's Cherry Cola Champions on Flannel Gurl Records, and with Droughts, Frameworks, and Prawn on Fairweather Records. Their song "The Green" was featured as Song of the Day on Spin.com, and Half-Cloth cites their 2013 release as having a "barbed pop thump" with a "gleeful sense of narrative." Kate would love to write a non-sequitur jam for you, or play you your favorite song. Let's talk turkey.
