Rescue Me

A ballad about a relationship that's falling apart. Home recording.

Wake Me in Paris

This ballad about long-distance love is a semi-finalist in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition. Co-written and Produced by Scott Mickelson. Studio recording.

Eric Butterfield is a singer/songwriter from Northern California, where he performs as a solo acoustic act. He uses the nuanced textures of indie rock, Americana and alt-country to tell personal yet universal stories.

His first single as a solo artist, “Wake Me in Paris” (co-written with Scott Mickelson), was a semi-finalist in the 2017 International Songwriting Competition, in the unsigned category, as well as a semi-finalist in the 2018 Unsigned Only music competition.

Eric also creates music under the moniker, Sons of the Golden West, and released a six-song EP in 2016. “Oh, California!” received college radio airplay, including on “The Next Big Thing” show on KALX at U.C. Berkeley.

He also is half of the indie rock duo Sunday Morning Astronauts.

Eric is a fourth-generation Californian who can trace both sides of his family to the days of the Mayflower, as well as a descendant of newly landed immigrants. His deep West Coast roots inform a sense of a rapidly changing landscape, giving him a sense of a history being lost. Travel has played a big role in his life. While living in Denver, Colorado, Eric was turned on to the vibrant Americana music scene, though he played in pop punk band at the time. Eric also lived in Dublin, Ireland, soaking up a lot of Irish folk music, while playing with a noisy indie rock band that went on to tour Europe and open for the likes of Pavement and Fugazi.

Eric's music has appeared in more than 200 TV episodes, on major broadcast and cable TV stations. His TV show credits include Last Call With Carson Daly (NBC), True Life (MTV), Real Housewives of Atlanta (Bravo), Return to Amish (TLC), Last Chance Highway (Animal Planet), Porter Ridge (Discovery), No Kitchen Required (BBC America), True Life (MTV), Brain Games (National Geographic Explorer), and Flipping Out (Bravo). His song "Teriza" appeared in an online video narrated by Ashley Judd, "Help Save Idaho's Wolves" (
