Brad Cole

The songs of Brad Cole address the ups and downs of the human condition with both wit and raw insight. His passionate and distinctive delivery of roots-based folk music woven with the grit and groove of old school bossa and rhythm & blues, move the listener’s soul in a direction that is unexpected yet perfectly familiar. In addition to his 2013 standout release Down The Line and his latest EP Pause, the last eighteen months have been very fruitful for Brad – Playing over one hundred shows and sharing the stage with a range of immensely talented artists such as Shovels and Rope, Ingrid Michaelson, Dave Davies, Chris Stapleton, Dan Navarro, Ellis Paul and Will Kimbrough. Brad has just finished recording his fourth full length record, entitled Lay It Down which is due to be released in Fall of 2015. Lay It Down was recorded in East Nashville, TN with producer Joe McMahan and a veteran cast of musicians resulting in a project that is perhaps Brad’s most soulfully eclectic and cohesive work to date. Currently based in New York City, Brad Cole tours extensively both as a solo acoustic performer and with his full band. 2014 Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalist 2014 Folk Alliance International Official Showcase Artist 2014 SERFA Official Showcase Artist 2013 Top 20 Roots/Americana Chart - Down The Line 2013 FARM Officil Showcase Artist 2013 13th Annual Great American Songwriting Contest Finalist Cole's influences are far and wide. "My Dad filled my childhood with Jazz standards. Classic rock and soul from the 60s and 70s came from my brother and sister. Then Marley, LJK, and Ska took over whatever pop radio had to offer and I started a reggae band with some friends. But what I think really had the biggest impact on me as a writer were the women of the last 20 years: Patty Griffin, Ammie Mann, Lucinda, Shawn Colvin to name a few. My heart and soul are with Mavis Staples, Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt." For years, Cole has been a fixture on the Chicago music scene sharing the stage with such greats as Uncle Tupelo and Smashing Pumpkins. Cole led several Chicago based bands including Treatment, The Second Story and toured with The Subscribers. Cole is a longtime member of Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music’s monthly “Songwriters Forum” and has curated a series of residences dubbed “Acoustic Circus.
